The ?diarium? of fr. Sebastian tromp sj is an important document for our understanding of the second vatican council. During this time fr. Tromp was secretary of the theological commission, which held responsibility for the theological content of the decrees prepared before the council and, to a lesser but still considerable extent, of the revised decrees that emerged from it. The full and detailed diary gives us a remarkable insight into the working of the commission, and thereby into the evolution of many of the council decrees and the various personalities involved.
